The SCCA was established in May 1998 by a small group of major shopping centre owners and managers who decided they needed an association specifically focused and devoted to their industry needs.
Initially operating as a division of the Property Council of Australia, the SCCA separated from the PCA and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee on 30 October 2005 and is governed by a Board of Directors, elected annually by the members.
Since its establishment the following people have chaired the SCCA:
2015 – Current: Peter Allen, CEO Scentre Group
2011 – 2015: Steven Sewell, CEO and Managing Director, Federation Centres
2008 – 2011: Robert (Bob) Jordan, Managing Director Australia, New Zealand and United States, Westfield Group
2001 – 2008: Andrew Scott, CEO, Centro Properties Group
2000 – 2001: Laurie Brindle, Head of Global Real Estate, QIC
1998 – 2000: Jack Ritch, Managing Director, AMP Capital Investors
