The Shopping Centre Council’s primary role is
advocating and protecting the interests of our members and their
investors on public policy issues at all levels of government.
Some of the key policy issues in which the SCCA
is heavily involved include:
-
ongoing reviews of retail lease legislation
by state and territory governments;
-
regulation of trading hours for shopping
centres;
-
matters concerning the Trade Practices Act;
-
land use and planning issues; and
-
youth and shopping centres.
Parking levies and real estate regulation are
other policy areas where the SCCA has been active in lobbying on
behalf of our members.

The SCCA also works closely with the Property
Council on advocacy issues affecting the entire property industry
such as national and state taxes and duties, infrastructure
funding, insurance reform, and sustainability initiatives. Further
details of these issues are available on the
Property Council’s
website.
